The Fort Erie Arts Council’s Red Ribbon Gala evening this year will be held on Saturday, November 10. This is the FEAC’s main fundraiser, creating an opportunity for members to display and sell their works. Tickets are $10 per person. Celebrate local creativity and have a great evening out, chatting with old friends and meeting new ones! Artists will be in attendance to discuss their works. Live painting will be featured throughout the evening. Models wearing fashions by a local designer will also be on display. A large silent auction will also be a part of the evening’s festivities, with proceeds to benefit the Fort Erie Arts Council.

The Bank of Canada is opting not to tinker with interest rates for the 25th consecutive month. The bank announced it was maintaining its benchmark overnight rate at 1%, The bank is also not expected to touch interest rates until well into next year.

Last week, Statistics Canada reported household debt was even higher than thought – sitting at 163.4% of average income. The Bank of Canada predicts that household debt — a combination of mortgages and consumer credit — is expected to rise over the next year before stabilizing.Household debt, even though it’s only rising slowly, will become a larger factor in determining monetary policy,

Even the Bank of Canada says despite the recession in Europe and other global negative indicators, the economy “is expected to pick up and return to full capacity by the end of 2013.”  It forecasts growth of 2.2% this year, 2.3% next year and 2.4% in 2014.

In the national competition of Communities-in-Bloom, Fort Erie Ontario was recognized as the winner last weekend, at an awards ceremony in Edmonton.

Fort Erie was judged in a category of towns and cities with populations ranging from 20,000 to 50,000. This award means that Fort Erie received higher scores than any other Canadian municipality in the same category in areas of tidiness, environmental action, urban forestry, heritage conservation, landscapes and floral display. Fort entered the competition for the first time in 2004 and this recent accomplishment is the brightest and most colorful received to date.

The national judges specifically recognized the efforts of the Crystal Beach Beautification Committee for the floral displays along Ridge and Erie Roads, the War of 1812 celebrations, the benefits of the adopt-a-park program and the museum’s efforts to preserve local heritage. Special recognition for the Point Abino Lighthouse Restoration was also received.

The national judges commended the municipality for being a place where community partners work together such as businesses, citizen groups, the Town, along with the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority. Fort Erie should be extremely proud of this outstanding accomplishment, as it is a direct result of the efforts of the entire community to make Fort Erie a better place.




The Bay Beach condo project development in Crystal Beach ON is gearing up for construction now that the final barrier has been removed.

The Fort Erie Waterfront Preservation Association thought it had a good chance at an appeal that would reverse the decision, but the judge overseeing the case tossed out the case before it ever got to trial.

The town is now able to issue a building permit for the project.
