How to Choose an Agent

So you’ve decided to sell your house. Or maybe you’ve decided now’s time to buy. With so many agents competing for your business, who do you trust?

There are over 50,000 Realtors and brokers in Ontario, Canada. Of these, only a few have the expertise and knowledge that fits your needs and can help you understand your home’s value.  Here are some questions you can ask agents to help determine which one is right for you:

1. What’s your track record for getting the list price? How long does it take for you to sell a property?

2. How will you market my home? (eg. ads, open houses)

3. What services do you provide? (eg. Appraisals, staging, recommending other professionals, etc.)

4.What do you know about my area/neighbourhood? Agents often specialize in specific areas and should know about the amenities that attract buyers, and also will be able to caution buyers on localproblems such as contaminated groundwater.

5. Can you provide references? Speak to past clients. How well did they work with the agent, and were they happy with the service?

Also please read our blog post on the advantages of choosing to work with an agent rather than sell or buy privately, so that you make an informed decision.
